The attorneys at Greene Broillet & Wheeler support many charitable organizations and events throughout the Los Angeles area. One of the organizations that we support is the Upward Bound House, whose mission is to eliminate homelessness among families with children in our community.
Earlier this month, Upward Bound House held its second annual Home Run For Kids event. The 5k/10k Walk/Run was held on May 4th in the Brentwood community of West Los Angeles.
Over 1,500 participants came to the event, which was sponsored by many area schools and businesses. At least $68,000 was raised for Upward Bound House, which will help increase awareness of the homelessness problem in our community and transition families into permanent homes.
About Upward Bound House
Upward Bound House achieves its mission through advocacy work and by providing housing and supportive services to families in need.
Upward Bound House currently operates four facilities:
- Family Place: A 21-unit Santa Monica apartment building that provides transitional housing and services for families that have dependent minor children. This facility helps around 50 families every year.
- Family Shelter: Located in Culver City, this emergency shelter provides short-term housing to families in crisis. In addition to safe housing, these families also receive comprehensive case management and counseling services.
- Senior Villa: Approximately 90 elderly residents receive affordable housing and services through this HUD-202 Prac project. Subsidies cover two-thirds of the residents’ rents. Residents are also provided with essential resources so they can lead enriched, independent lives.
- Intergenerational Center: In an effort to help clients break the cycle of homelessness, the Intergenerational Center provides services to all of the generations in Upward Bound House programs. Services include after-school activities for children, money management programs for adults, and independent living services for seniors.
