Los Angeles Botched Circumcision Attorneys
Representing Victims of Bris Injuries and Complications in Southern California
Important to many different religious faiths, cultures, and personal perspectives, circumcision is a common surgical procedure performed on newborn male babies. While circumcision has been called “one of the safest surgical procedures,” errors still occur in up to 0.6 percent of circumcisions. That number may seem small until you realize that 60 percent of U.S. babies — nearly 2.4 million — are circumcised every year. Doing the math, that means that up to 14,400 babies are injured every year in botched circumcisions or bris procedures.
In 2011, our Los Angeles lawyers at Greene Broillet & Wheeler, LLP secured a $4.6 million judgment against a company that manufactured a defective circumcision clamp. If your child sustained serious injuries due to a defective product, we will take the time to investigate your case and put our vast resources to work for you.

What Causes a Botched Bris or Circumcision?
According to the World Health Organization, at least one in three male babies are circumcised around the world, as this practice is common in a wide range of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian denominations. In the Jewish faith, circumcision is also known as a “bris,” and it is often performed by a Jewish religious expert called a mohel. These religious practitioners are required to receive extensive religious and medical training. However, the practice is not restricted to religious rituals alone: Many secular physicians are asked to perform circumcision shortly after birth in the hospital.
While the reasons for a bris complication can vary, circumcision errors are typically either caused by defective circumcision tools or by doctor and practitioner error. No matter what caused your child’s injury, we will dig deep to help you and your family fight for financial relief during this traumatic time.
Common circumcision errors can include:
- Circumcision on the wrong baby
- Not enough foreskin cut
- Too much foreskin cut
- Cuts into the penis tip
- Laceration of penile skin
- Infections
- Excessive bleeding
- Urethral fistula
- Anesthesia errors
After suffering a circumcision error, some babies will need to undergo multiple surgeries (including skin grafts) to recover full use of their penis. Some will develop infections that can lead to penile amputations or kill them if left untreated. Others will never be able to have an erection because of circumcision errors. A child injured during circumcision may face psychological trauma now and in the future.
