A civil trial in San Diego Superior Court exposes a disturbing pattern of deceptive behavior of misusing donor funds at UC San Diego. The case involves a $10 million gift to a former UCSD radiation oncologist, Dr. Kevin Murphy, M.D., who claims the gift was supposed to go to his research but instead was converted to the Moores Cancer Center. When he blew the whistle on this misconduct, he faced retaliation and eventual termination. "Because of Dr. Murphy challenging them, he angered some very powerful people at the university, and they turned this all around on him. Now you have the money, but now we're going to make sure you can't use it, and we're going to fire you and take the money back," Trial Attorney Mark Quigley told ABC10.
